jer - the moondog

Leriland is built around a small bay, with most of the town lying around the south and east shores. To the west of Leriland is the open ocean, vast and beautiful, and to the north is grass, trees, mountains (not too far off), and jer.

jer lives at the northwest corner of the bay, where the cliffs drop down to the jagged ocean shore on the west, and the rolling waves and sandy beaches line the bay on the south. His home is a large farmhouse, old and mostly-white, and the lighthouse that is attached to it. He lives here, alone some would say, but not jer. As long as he is there, in Leriland, he does not consider himself alone.

jer keeps his lighthouse burning at all times, a beacon for those denizens of the virtual village who wander too far, and for those who have yet to arrive.

The farmhouse itself is large (two stories, and an attic), and the paint looks only fairly new. A porch runs along the entire west and south sides of the house, and has a swing and more than a few chairs on it. Besides the main doors, on the south, there are also french doors along the west side, opening into the dining room.

Inside, all is hardwood floors, and the colorful rugs in each room brighten when they know someone is watching. There is the large dining room, which jer uses to entertain guests with good food and better drink. There is also a library, a sitting room, and a bath, all of which jer has lined with paintings, mostly of flowers and dancers and other wonderful things. The kitchen is large, and always smells of fresh bread, garlic, and wine. Rows of copper cookware glint in the sunlight during the evening hours.

Upstairs are the guest bedrooms, and the master bedroom where jer sleeps under a down comforter, as well as the Port, the doorway leading into the Net, and to jer's Other, Jeremy. The decor here is similar.

Downstairs is jer's wine cellar, which is always well stocked, as jer loves his wine, and even operates his own private vinery for his special label, Moondog (not to be confused with MadDog). Moondog is a white wine, slightly dry yet fruity, with an aftertaste that mellows to apples and cedar. He is most generous with his product, tending to leave bottles on the doorsteps of those he knows are having parties.

The attic is a private space, slightly dusty, where those who want to can go to be alone. No one can disturb a visitor to the attic. Not even the owner.

jer's studio is, of course, located in the base of the large lighthouse. Here he paints (not well), draws, and takes the photos that doccument life in Leriland. He also makes jewelry for the people who live there, because his art is always best when made for people of inner and outer beauty.

jer himself likes to walk around his "estate," enjoying the areas of open grass around his house, or walking down the old stairs to the beach below. He sometimes even wanders into the woods and down the road to Leriland itself to visit Kyra Who Runs With the Tigers, or the reclusive Rez, or the coffeshop. He usually carries his guitar, which he plays every day, mostly in the sun.

At night, jer bathes in the moonlight, especially when it reflects off the ocean. It is when the moon is full that the Moondog thinks of flying, but rarely does. Instead he cries out for his brothers and sisters, and when they arrive from town, they dance down the stairs to the bonfire on the beach and revel in each other, and life.
