the TapeL00p(tm) was removed from the TapePlair(tm) by the OverSeers and placed into a vat of cold blue liquid. it seemed ironic to the OverSeers that , though all of this digital technology was in a perfected and crystalline form at their fingertips, they had needed to revert to simple analog techniques to re-capture the flow of point-events necessary to create the MacroMicroNoggin(tm). day after day they had slaved, placing lightyears and lightyears of lengths of TapeL00ps into their TapeRec0rders. the CycloTron, too, had slaved away, numbly spitting out iterations and iterations of events and scenarios for into nexted M0ebiusL00ps for use in the Vats.

after 8948923467 aeons of this, the OverSeers were beginning to learn a few things: 1: all of the beings nested into the L00ps felt themselves to be both completely natural and non-experimental-beings, and simultaneously surrounded by the most peculiar set of circumstances which normal non-experimental realities could possible allow for. 2: the beings in the L00ps always ended up carrying out an experiment quite similar to the one in which they were entrained -- iterating myriad combinations of scenarios in the hope of finding one that suited perfectly the needs of the person who had the power to carry out said iterations. 3: the iterations ALWAYS -- and this was the strange part -- ALWAYS fell into StrangeL00ps and AbsurdAttractors on the 24th iteration.

the OverSeers worried, sometimes, wishing they could gnow what number iteration the experiment in which they were entrained was currently running through.

but that was Neither Here Nor There(tm). the HeadOverSeer took this, the 24th and decidedly last iteration of this particular test batch over to the big PowerCell. it glowed with a godzillion liquid blue PowerCells in the dark and inky CyberVoid in which it lay. the plane of blue honeycombed cells stretched out before him, anxiously awaiting the placement of what was to be the KeyStone vat...the very vat containing the TapeL00p just removed from CycloTron.

it was also a pity, mused the OverSeer, that their minds were digital matrices as well -- that meant that they could never ever ever see exactly what "events" had "transpired" on any of the loops ever iterated. in the old days, when they had stored their info digitally, they could always do an instantaneous PsyScan and know everything at once. but ever since they had discovered that the 897234th Law of Non-Equilibrium ThermoDynamics necessitated the use of normal analog TapeL00ps in order to truly simulate -- create -- a certain class of events, well, their confidence had sort of waned. when theydid their PsyScans now, all they got were these bizarre echoey ripples of stuff.

ah well. they had decided this time around that now was as good as any time. they would place what was to be the last iteration into the glowing blue HiveMind and turn on The Juice(tm). the chances of catastrophe -- the chances that this iteration just happened to contain the Manifestation of the Aleph(tm) were so obscenely unlikely that the risk wasn't going to get any better. they were relatively certain that in none of the godzillion other vatted L00ps had the Aleph truly awakened. the likelyhood of this simple little one being The One was next to nil. besides, the risk was worth it. for if, as the decidedly keystone vat was placed into the HiveMatrix and turned on, there were no spontaneous appearances of The Aleph in the lot, then surely enough The Aleph would become manifest right then and there. and of course It would be under the control of The OverSeers because they had created it. ah, Irony of Universal Ironies!(tm)

but, of course, if The Aleph had just blindly happened to become manifest within this very vatted L00p which he was now gently setting into position...

well. some things are better left unthunk.

the switch was flipped.

a godzillion vats of blue goo lit up with the genuinely analog flow of a godzillion^g worlds and events and beings. all, that is, except for the keystone vat labelled [earth7623476357] ...

the tape within it began to collapse into a toroid-singularity of the same deep brown waxy hue as the tape which had fuelled its formation.

the little toroid-bubble slowly rose to the surface of the vat as the looks on the pseudopods of the OverSeers slowly turned from extacy to a hideous absurd writhing eldrich horror...

the toroid-bubble reached the surface of the vat just as the rest of the HiveMatrix was reaching its climax...

...it burst...
