No Call For Papers was posted on LISTSERV lists and (fwd)ed to other LISTSERV
lists this time, as the entire program was solicited by means of a few phone calls
and the occasional fax. From the hastily scribbled faxes of incoherent abstracts of
not merely unwritten but unthought about, as well, papers, it was vaguely decided
upon by conveners and presiders that the Conference would have some thingorother to
do with the interfacing of popular-cultural, youth-cultural, and virtual-cultural
quasi-forms in the emergence of postmodernist counterhegemonic, counterelitist
anticapitalist thisthatortheother. The actual purpose of the conference, however
nevertheless notwithstanding andinanycasegenerally speaking, as suspected, rumoured,
surmised, wildguessed, or deconstructed by several hundred undisciplined interdisciplinary
gossips, is the shacking-up, for the duration of the Conference, tentatively
three or four days, of [Name Withheld 1] with [Name Withheld 2] in a hotel room.
